Mmm Juice inc sent us a preview build of their upcoming game ‘All Pro Crash: Off Road’ an arcade racing game. In it you race suped up trucks around dirt tracks, as you vie for that number one spot and championship glory.
On first impressions the game reminds me of Super Sprint, although obviously in full 3D. Super sprint was a top down racer on various platforms, including the NES, and saw you slipping and sliding manically around the track. In a sense this game feels the same. You don’t quite feel in full control of your truck as the over the top physics have you flipping and spinning all over the place. But, this is half the fun, and a good challenge to test your driving skills.
The developer claims the controls are ultra-responsive, and while this isn’t false, I would like to see some more options in this regard, especially a tilt control option and a slider style wheel ala Asphalt GT. I found the Left and Right buttons a little awkwardly placed for my liking, and over sensitive.
As you’ll see in the video below I don’t exactly do a good job, in fact I suck! However, in my defence I was recording video of the game at the same time! Away from prying eyes I managed to finish first.
Graphically the game is shaping up nicely. While the textures are a little on the low resolution side, the vehicle physics and damage, including break away parts, is top notch… if a little over the top. But this is an arcade racer, and not trying to be Gran Turismo! The presentation is looking good too, with an attractive 3D interface and fitting music throughout.
With some tweaks to the controls and some visual refinements, All Pro Crash Off Road is shaping up to be a fun filled arcade racer when it hits the AppStore. Check out the screens and hands-on video below.
