Aliens have invaded Earth and several nearby colonies, and it’s up to you to find out how to stop them. Guided by a mysterious general (i bet it’s his father all along!), you will travel to several planets around the solar system, and beyond. Uncover the truth about your past to discover why only you stand a chance at stopping the alien invasion…. and you’ll do it all in board shorts and a pair of flip-flops!!!
It has to be one of the most mismatched ideas I’ve seen, but that’s kinda what intrigued me in the first place. Take your standard side-scrolling shooter/platformer and make the hero a surfer dude. Genius!
But seriously, this game does actually look pretty good. While I’m not a huge fan of the art style, the action is pretty intense with some great weapon effects and ragdoll physics at work. It’s not just a straight shooter either, there are some interesting puzzle elements on show too. While most weapons seem to do just killing, some look to be able to move large objects such as boulders in order to allow surfer dude to get to out-of-reach platforms. Bionic Surfer is out now at an introductory price of $0.99. Look out for our hands on soon, but in the meantime check out the video and screens of the game in action.

Bionic Surfer is an overlooked gem, which had the misfortune of being released around the same time and some high profile (and less fun) titles. Thanks for finally giving it some attention.

yep, as I mentioned in the article, I’m not sold on the look either, but I’ve had hands on with it today and it plays pretty well.
