Older gamers out there may remember Cannon Fodder which came out on the Amiga, Atari ST and PC. The game saw you in command of a bunch of troops, and in a similar style to RTS games you pointed with the mouse where you wanted the unit to move and attack. However the game was more action and arcade-like in feel than that of your traditional RTS. I loved Cannon Fodder, so much so that I even toyed with the idea of bringing it to iPhone myself, but it looks like someone has beaten me to it.

Warpack Grunts, developed by Strange Flavour and published by Freeverse, looks to borrow ideas from Cannon Fodder, with you taking your unit of grunts through various war torn environments, on a mission to destroy the bad guys. The game is set for release in two weeks. Check out the screens and official game spiel below:

Infamous cheapskate and generally naughty person Evil Dude is forming an army of Ubiquitous Badly Trained Evil Chaps for his latest plan of world domination, led by his henchman General Issimo.

An international squad of special forces troopers pulled from units all around the world has been put together. They shoot things, blow things up, drive tanks and pilot helicopters. They also really, really love their M-16s. They are the Grunts!

Lead the squad around 40 levels of mayhem to stop Evil Dude’s plan and save the world. Warpack: Grunts has 4 levels of difficulty (Easy, Normal, Hard and Nnnnaarrrgh!), online highscores for the campaign and every level, as well as a special unlockable game mode for those of a survivalist nature (oh and the obligatory hidden musical instrument of course).
