Zoneout Quick Review

by Matt Dunn

Wow. Not often does a developer take such a simple game concept, and polish it to a shiney bacon-grease sheen! Enter Zoneout, the best JezzBall-look-a-like on the App Store. Ok, that doesn’t do it justice. Just read the review! (Bacon not included.)

Blackbeard’s Assault Quick Review

Click to launch App Storeby Matt Dunn

I’m not sure where the genre originated, but games like Zuma and PuzzleLoop have always held a special place in my gaming heart. The fast-paced nature of these games has always one-upped most other match-the-color puzzle games. Does Blackbeard’s Assault one-up the competition?

Hero of Sparta Review

Review by Ricky Gallo (Competition winner)

sparta-logoAllow me to begin by saying that there has certainly been a lot of hype surrounding Gameloft lately. There have been Brothers in Arms, Ferrari GT, Asphalt 4, and countless other hit titles in only a few months. So far, it would not be ridiculous to say that all of there titles are gems, and although sometimes a little pricey (by App Store standards) can provide a gamer with hours of enjoyment. However, is Gameloft’s newest title over-hyped? Is there truth to some of its early, stellar reviews? Is it worth the 80-something megabytes? Read on to find out. [Read more →]

Outer Space Review

Review by Matt Dunn

Every once and a while there’s an independent game that really shines despite pre-play impressions. Outer Space is that game. Don’t mind if what you first assumed seemed less than impressive. It’s a fun, varied, and extremely challenging game for $5.99. But is it worth that price?

Platypus quick review

Originally a Macintosh game by Squashy software. Platypus has been ported over to the iPhone by bitrabbit and published by Astraware. The game is a classic style side-scrolling shooter, but with a difference, for everything you see is made of clay! Using a technique know as Claymation – you’ve all seen Wallace & Grommit right? - the ships, bullets, explosions and backgrounds are all built and animated out of plasticine. It brings a real tactile three dimensional feel to an otherwise 2D genre. [Read more →]
