Hands on + video: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

THQ released the anticipated ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed’ on iPhone today. Available for $9.99 (£5.99) here. We have played the first few levels, and so far it is to early to give our full verdict. What we have played is fun, and fits nicely within the Star Wars universe. The game is like an interactive story. You don’t directly control where you go, instead you are automatically taken from scene to scene, where you must dispense of enemies using gesture control. For instance when a flashing red icon appears above an enemies head you must swipe a diagonal gesture in the direction indicated. To pick the enemy up and throw them to their death using force powers, simply gesture the force lift and throw actions and your actions will be reproduced on screen. The game has a cinematic feel to it, with great music and sound, and features full 3D characters on pre-rendered 3D backgrounds giving the impression of full 3D scenes. Each scene does feature different camera angles, some from behind the apprentice, 3rd person style, and some from the side and from above, but the camera is fixed. At just over 20Mbs, it doesn’t feature any full motion video or Voice over which is a shame, but the in game character animation does look good. We’ll have a full review later this week.
